Al Gore

"I am here today to lend my support to one of the most important pieces of legislation ever introduced in the Congress. I believe this legislation has the moral significance equivalent to that of the civil rights legislation of the 1960’s and the Marshall Plan of the late 1940’s."
Wow... Global Climate change legislation is more morally correct than civil rights, and rebuilding Western Europe after World War II. Shows just were the hearts of congress is right now. And what they see as moral priorities. I personally think it is morally wrong to impose such a huge tax on the American people. And yes, this will be a tax. Utility and Manufacturing companies will pass the cost to the American people. Uncle Bama even tells us that there will be a significant increase in utility costs if Cap and trade is passed. Uncle Bama said the following during a January 2008 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle.
"You know, when I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, uh, you know — Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers."It will be interesting to see if Cap and Trade does pass, who can afford to heat/cool their homes. This is going to be one of the biggest taxes ever placed on the people of the US. It is a burden that none of us should have to shoulder. I wonder if the White House, and Federal Buildings will have to abide by the new legislation. I bet they will be excluded from the Cap and Trade regulations and restrictions. Just like they are excluded from IRS tax penalties, and jail time.

He didn't say that energy legislation is "more morally correct" than civil rights and the Marshall plan, you are twisting reality here....re-read what you typed. He said it has moral significance equivalent to those historic milestones, and is in no way taking away from the significance of civil rights and reconstruction....you imply that Gore is demeaning the significance of those issues and frankly your statement is completely asinine.
If you listen to his entire speech ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XY1naT3-RDc ) then you will hear his reasons for making the statement which include, but are not limited to, hundreds of millions of climate refugees being forced from their homes by rising sea levels and the significant destruction of wildlife and habitat.
Granted the science in his speech is in dispute, and if you watch the entire debate there are some good counterpoints to Gore's speech made by committee members that should be taken into consideration, but the general consensus is that climate change is a significant issue...the debate is over how to best address it. Maybe cap and trade is the right answer and maybe it isn't, but something certainly needs to be done.
It is an exercise in ignorance to twist every issue into "the government is trying to take all of my money and control my life" which seems to the the biohazard mantra. We all have a part to play in this, and we all need to accept some responsibility.
The federal government has already taken $1 Trillion dollars from the American Tax payers over the last year in the form of Bailouts. Just remember, the federal government does not get money unless it is taken from American citizens or businesses in the first place. Why would I not think they are going to take more. Their track record speaks for itself.
As far as them being environmentally friendly.... Uncle Bama celebrated Earth day by flying 895 miles and burning 8,950 gallons of jet fuel. Al Gore celebrated Earth hour the same way he spends every night. He did not turn of any lights that are not usually on during that hour at his mansion.
Uncle Bama recently flew Air Force One and a fighter jet over the Statue of Liberty just to have some photos of the event. I could of done the same thing in Photo shop. Why not save the environment and NOT fly the plane for a set of pictures?
I hope you are right, I hope they do find another way to SAVE the PLANET besides Cap and Trade. But if Cap and Trade does pass, and your utility bills go out of control, don't say you weren't warned.
Signed, the asinine, ignorant, fact twisting, left-wing nutjob, Mormon.
I think the coolest thing on the planet is when someone gets on another person's blog and tells them that all their viewpoints and opinions are wrong. I also think it's totally awesome when that same person starts calling the blogger names. Really, the niftiest thing about it is when that person keeps choosing to read and comment on said blog and trying to correct the blogger instead of just finding one that coincides with their own viewpoints. I feel that it really makes the world a better place to treat others with disrespect instead of debating courteously, don't you? I mean, who in their right mind would just pleasantly disagree? That would just be stuff and nonsense!
wow I had never thought of "climate refugees"....
Oh brother!

Climate change is junk science, nothing more. It had been used by GE and AL Gore to line their pockets with $$$$!

I personally think that I have an obligation to be as gentle as possible on the environment. At the same time the resources on this Earth are here for us to use.
Education is better than legislation. I am tired of being told what to do (in the way of laws and taxes) in almost every aspect of my life.
At the same time I am happy to learn and grow and change. Mr Ignorant and I have decreased our electric bill almost 2$ a day (and this didn't happen from changing our light bulbs) because we want to be gentler on the Earth and less reliant on goverment utilities. We did this by choice.
If our cost of living increases (businesses and utilities passing on the expenses) even by the smallest estimates given out by the cap and trade people, our family will experience a signifigant financial burden.
How is this right, correct or good. For something that you, yourself admits is disputed science.

@ Mike: Touché
@ Aimee: I think your conservation efforts are great. Also, if you watch the debate with Mr. Gore from the 24th someone confronts him directly Re: him profiting from his efforts, his answer is decent, but does not fully convince. Don't mistake me for a Gore puppet that believes he can do no wrong, I'm not, but I do respect his efforts. I also maintain that his quote was not assessed fairly in this post.
@Suburban Zoo: I don't even know how to respond...it has been a while since I was in elementary school and my playground comebacks need some polish.
@All: I was once told by a couple of parties administering the biohazard that counterpoints and differing opinions were welcome, however, it now appears as if some feel victimized by the same. I do admit that I see how this possibly came to be, perhaps my declaring a statement as "asinine" was taken as "you are asinine" which was not my intention (and this isn't the only example). As a result of statements intended to be somewhat benign being taken personally, and in an attempt to preserve a cordial relationship, I assure all that this will be my last visit to and comment on the biohazard blog. All the best to you and yours.
@ Mr. Biohazard: Don't you think your comments sections will get just a little lonely without me??? :) (Seems like the only time a post gets more than one comment is when I offer a counterpoint). Cheers.
